In August, our friend James Dearsley asked us to guest edit his popular Sunday PropTech Review newsletter. Of course, we agreed and jumped on this opportunity. Thank you for the honor, James!

I know most of you are still enjoying the sun and warm weather, but I will let you in on a secret: the summer is coming to an end, finally. Here in the north, winter is truly coming.

My name is Harri Majala and I am the CEO / Founder of GBuilder, based here in Oulu, Finland.

We are taking home buyers on a digitalised customer journey when buying a new home.

Our own journey started 2013 and I guess we’ve finally made it since James asked us to guest-edit the Sunday PropTech Review. What an honour, thank you James!

Since this is new to me, I have asked our CSMO, Jarmo Ollila to join me on this interesting Sunday journey. We have gathered articles and podcasts close to our heart, a mix of Contech, Proptech and wider innovation. Our personal key interests are VR and AR/MR solutions and hardware. I hope you enjoy these stories as much as we enjoyed putting them together for you.

The Gartner Hype Cycle for Emerging Technologies, 2018

The Digital Twin is very close to the top of Gartner’s “Hype Cycle for Emerging Technologies”. I personally don’t think you can just place it on one spot on that chart, it’s relevance is wide-reaching, but this are still very exciting times for us all working with Digital Twins.

Investor confidence in prop tech hits a record high

Two articles about investing, including the why and who, in real estate tech. The first examines the current ecosystem, offering reasons as to why investment is so high. But this “14 most active VC investors in US real estate tech” article, for us “A-Round hunters”, is very interesting. Some familiar names there for sure.

Five cool tips to for manufacturers engaging with BIM

Providing your product details through various BIM libraries is going to change the way manufacturers operate. I guess you can say that these are first steps towards online shopping and distribution platforms.

Raze, rebuild, repeat: why Japan knocks down its houses after 30 years

Jumping outside Europe here for a bit, I have always been interested in Japan and this article crossed my path this week. (Its from late 2017) Interesting stats and cultural inside on Japanese housing markets and why forever homes are never really forever.

Magic Leap: A flawed glimpse of mixed reality’s amazing potential

Brilliant piece from The Verge: MR, AR, whatever you call it, has a new player: Magic Leap. The most anticipated headset is finally here and can’t wait to get my hands on it asap. And, if you wonder who are the other players in that space, these guys are the market leader at the moment with a new headset coming out soon…I hope.

PODCAST: Vr Podcasts
Continuing my AR/VR journey, here is all you need to learn about VR/AR.

This site includes 50 VR and AR related podcasts for you to choose from. I know what I will do for the rest of the year.

PODCAST: RESIcast: Trailblazers – diversity and innovation in the property industry
Unfortunately, I did not have time to listen to this Podcast before sending it out, but what I understood from it so far, this has some good insights on innovations and diversity in the property industry.

As you can see, a lot is happening in these fields and someday we all look back at these articles and think that there was a time when we actually lived without this technology in our everyday life. Scary.
